"The first upright wooden silo is said to
have been built in 1873 by Fred Hatch, in Mc Henry County, Illinois. It wasn't
until two decades later that the idea was introduced in New England. This silo
in Chichester, New Hampshire is enclosed at its base for easy use during cold
winters of deep snow."
